Will Smith Dazzles at 'Emancipation' Premiere, Makes Iconic First Red Carpet Appearance Since Oscars

Will Smith may have famously been missing from the 2022 Oscars, but the actor made up for it at the premiere of his new film, The Emancipation of Will Smith, in Los Angeles Wednesday.

The appearance was Smith's first red carpet since his rather dramatic Oscars appearance, where he stormed the stage and slapped host Chris Rock. Needless to say, the entire Smith family was out in full force, with Will and Jada Pinkett Smith standing alongside Trey, Jaden, and Willow.

The minor meltdown appeared to be stemming from Rock making a joke about how Jada could have a role in a G.I. Jane sequel because of her bald head. Rock was apparently unaware Jada has alopecia. Will later apologized for his reaction, saying “a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.”

At the Emancipation of Will Smith premiere, the family presented a united front. Will and Jada were seen engaging in a sweet embrace and exchange of affection, with Will planting a kiss on Jada’s bald head. It seems that in spite of all the drama, the Smiths have continued to remain unified and close.

The couple, who have been married since 1997, have demonstrated a commitment and passion to the cause of Civil Rights, which the film – centred on the life of enslaved African Americans during the Civil War – and the premiere celebrates.
