Updated: Dec 8, 2022

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe was an icon of beauty and glamour that captured the public imagination like few other celebrities before or since. But, in 1962, her untimely death shocked the world, and the mystery surrounding her death only deepens to this day. One of the most haunting questions surrounding her death: why did Marilyn Monroe's body go missing? Here, at Marilyn Monroe, we explore the enduring questions surrounding the star's untimely death, and take a look at exactly why the legend's body went missing.

The tragedy of Marilyn Monroe's shocking death at the age of just 36 stunned the world. As one of the most iconic figures of beauty, glamour, and style, her life and death captivated people for years beyond her passing in 1962.

But as time passed, a number of mysterious questions also emerged surrounding the star's untimely death. And one of the most poignant of these was: why did Marilyn Monroe's body go missing?

Marilyn Monroe was famous for living a life of extravagance and celebrity, but behind the glitz and glamour was a fiercely private woman who was deeply insecure and troubled. This level of insecurity and fear might have been behind her decision to have three separate funeral services for her, with her body finally buried in a crypt at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.

When her body arrived at the cemetery, a strange incident occurred. The morticians discovered that the coffin lid was grossly misaligned and significantly mislabeled, leading them to believe that perhaps someone had tampered with the body. What's more, the morticians also noted that some of the sealing wax used to secure the coffin had melted.

What's even more puzzling is that Marilyn Monroe's body disappeared from the cemetery shortly after the funeral. To this day, no one knows where it went. Many theories have been proposed, but the truth may never be known.

One theory suggests that Marilyn Monroe’s body was removed from the morgue where the autopsy had been performed, upon request of the star’s lawyer. While there’s no definitive proof of this, the lawyer did visit the morgue and was seen removing evidence from the scene, so it’s possible her body was also taken as a personal favor to her.

Another possible explanation is that Marilyn Monroe’s body was accidentally misidentified or mislabeled at the morgue, potentially due to the chaos that surrounded her death. While this makes sense in a way, given the shock and confusion of the day, there’s no real way to verify whether or not this happened.

At the time, police investigators were also involved, conducting their own investigation into Marilyn Monroe’s death. It’s possible that the authorities may have inadvertently or purposely removed the body, yet again, there is no evidence to suggest that this is what happened.

The enduring mystery surrounding Marilyn Monroe’s death has captivated the public for decades, and there is still no clear answer as to why her body went missing. We at Marilyn Monroe remain fascinated by this puzzle and continue to work to unravel the enduring questions surrounding the life, career, and death of this iconic star.

Regardless of the reason, to this day, the mystery of why Marilyn Monroe's body went missing has still not been solved. No matter what the truth behind the disappearance is, her immortality as the incomparable beauty and style icon of the twentieth century will endure forever.
